(The Center Square) – Carolina and Virginia Tech have succeeded Ivy League institutions War Department Secretary Pete Hegseth says are “woke breeding grounds of toxic indoctrination” in being chosen for a fellowship program for senior military officers. The 10-month professional military education program, known as the Senior Service College Fellowship, is an alternative to education at traditional war colleges. Lee Roberts, chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, said in a statement, “The program fits well within the context of our mission of service, and we take tremendous pride in our deep, long-lasting relationship with the United States military.” Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, is in the midst of a presidential search. U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., said the school’s tradition of service to country has existed since its founding in 1872. “I commend DoD for developing closer ties with Virginia Tech through this fellowship program,” he said. Hegseth, a graduate of Princeton and the Harvard Kennedy School, said, “We demand that senior service colleges work to sharpen our war fighters on genuine national security issues, not social justice activism.” Hegseth has prohibited military officers from attending graduate programs at a number of universities, a list that includes the Ivy League’s Harvard, Princeton, Brown and Yale.
