(The Center Square) – Conservation tax credits are extended until 2031 in legislation signed into law Monday by North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein.

The first-term Democrat signed NC Farm Act of 2025-2026, known also as Senate Bill 401, and five other bills. As of Tuesday morning, only one bill remains at his desk in the 10-day waiting period for action.

The Farm Act makes a number of changes, or tweaks, to state law. Included is language pertaining to agricultural water, hog farms, equine, bovine, pest control and liquid petroleum gas.

The bill also strengthens felony punishment for larceny of ungathered crops.

“Agriculture is a key driver of North Carolina’s economy, and I appreciate the General Assembly’s collaboration on this law,” Stein said. “I am grateful that it [strengthens the preservation](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/s401) of North Carolina’s natural and agricultural lands by extending conservation tax credits until 2031.”

Also signed into law were [Incent Development Finance District Funding](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/s695) (Senate Bill 695); [Worker Safety Act of 2026](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/h258) (House Bill 258); [Prohibit Litigation Invest/Amend WC Benefits](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/h315) (House Bill 315); [Physical Therapy Practice Act Mods.](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/h536) (House Bill 536, Senate Bill 669); and [Clarify Tourism-Related Expenditures](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/s484) (Senate Bill 484).

Stein said SB695 would encourage partnership between local governments and developers to increase housing availability and affordability.

Stein on Friday was presented [GSC Add Member from High Point Law School](https://www.ncleg.gov/BillLookUp/2025/s858), known also as Senate Bill 858. The governor has 10 days to act on all bills presented, either signing, issuing a veto, or allowing to become law without his signature. Day of presentation is considered Day 0.
