(The Center Square) – Linda McMahon, secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, on Tuesday spoke about education to a private audience in her native North Carolina hometown.
McMahon, at the Baker’s Kitchen in New Bern as part of the America First Speaker Series, shared insight on how the administration’s agenda empowers parents, helps rebuild the American workforce, and restores opportunity. She spoke about implementation of technology and the importance of patriotism.
Regulation by the federal government hinders teachers, McMahon said.
“If we can get rid of that boggle of bureaucracy and have more money available in the states, the less time that teachers have to spend in regulatory compliance and allow them to teach more, that’s the way we can serve our students,” McMahon said.
The East Carolina University alumna said teaching “is the most noble profession in our country.” And she said, “I do think teachers are underpaid.”
Ashley Hayek, executive vice president of the America First Policy Institute, led the conversation. Retired Army Col. Laurie Buckhout, running to unseat Democratic Rep. Don Davis in the 1st Congressional District, also participated in the discussion.
