This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Tuesday January 6th, 2026.

Today, all across the land, liberals and their allies in the legacy media will once more wring their hands at the memory of January 6th, 2021. Conservatives need to understand that no matter how much we prove otherwise, Democrats and Trump-haters will always go back to that well in order to shout “insurrectionist” at any Republican victory. It is their drug of choice. No doubt one hundred years from now – if our Republic survives that long – the future version of the Democrat party will call for reparations for those who are descendants of the January 6th Massacres.

After a year of riots in 2020 – where we learned that you are allowed to go without a mask on as long as you are protesting Donald Trump but must triple wrap yourself in recycled t-shirts over your mouth if going to visit Grandma – Republicans thought it was their turn to show up en masse to our nation’s capital to protest an election that had some troubling aspects about it. In so doing, a number of those attendees in Washington DC thought it would be ok – because Democrats did it all the time – to break into federal buildings and make themselves at home. They also thought it would be ok to assault or disobey police – again, because Liberals got away with it all the time. Or to lie to investigators. Or to obstruct justice. All very criminal. And in fact – not very bright.

That is the lesson that Conservatives need to learn from January 6th, 2021 – don’t be stupid. We must be better than those in Democrat leadership – because the vast amount of Democrats truly are patriotic Americans who themselves are appalled at the direction their party is going. Our words must be measured, our policies must be practical in order to give those on the fence some reason to listen to us. The rising emotional populism among Conservatives must be balanced by the reality that those who wrote We The People both hated and feared Democracy – which is why they instituted a Republic where elected officials are somewhat insulated – and initially in the case of the US Senate entirely cutoff – from the whims of the general populace. Instead of getting together and shouting “No Quarter” or “Socialist” at Democrats, Conservatives instead should be going into community centers, schools, churches, and other gatherings and talking about – not screaming - how the tried and true foundations of limited taxes, limited government, and individual responsibility will empower our people, strengthen families, and restore our country.

That is called being a smart conservative.

For the Wilmington Standard, I’m Reuel Sample. Thanks for listening.
