They are still transitioning kids. And we are paying for it.

This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Wednesday August 12, 2026.

An [investigative report by the Center Square](https://www.thecentersquare.com/north_carolina/article_18a8b8c1-7113-4826-a0a9-69c1d8632082.html) has found North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services has sent at least $1.2 million to the Charlotte Transgender Healthcare Group. This non-profit organization openly proclaims hormone therapy and puberty blocker drugs as treatments for minors.

Charlotte Transgender Health Care Group also provides a drop-down box for those seeking care. According to their [website](https://thewilmingtonstandard.com/north-carolina-news/taxpayer-philanthropy-north-carolina-paying-trans-nonprofit-despite-ban):

Fifty-three healthcare professionals in the directory, including four medical doctors, have profiles saying they have "gender-affirming care competency" for patients ages 17 and younger. Twenty-one say they see patients 10 and younger. Six, including one medical doctor, say they serve ages 0 to 3.

All this despite the fact the Republican controlled North Carolina legislature outlawed child transition treatments in 2023. To make sure their intents were very clear, the bill in part states “No State funds may be used, directly or indirectly, for the performance of or in furtherance of surgical gender transition procedures, or to provide puberty‑blocking drugs or cross‑sex hormones to a minor.” Governor Roy Cooper vetoed the bill, but thankfully his lack of protection of children was overriden by the GOP.

Clearly these allocations violate both the letter and spirit of the law passed in 2023. The state claims they are not paying for the treatment of children, only for the care and counseling of adults. However, that is political shell game. Grants from the state may be being used for adult-only care, but it just frees up other funds to destroy the lives of children.

These allocations need to be shut down immediately until further review. Dave Boliek – North Carolina’s State Auditor – and Dr. Devdutta Sangvai – the director of the state’s Health and Human Services – need to start an immediate audit of these funds going to Charlotte Transgender Healthcare. Any organization that promotes the chemical or physical mutualization of children should receive not a penny of state dollars – no matter what kind of accounting gymnastics they may perform.

As to those doctors who are providing transition care to children under 10? They just simply need to go to jail.
