Daily Update - December 30, 2025

Only way to save higher education is to remove tenure.

This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Tuesday December 30th, 2025.

A Fox News opinion piece published by Dr. Kent Ingle – the President of Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL – is hopeful that college students are once again seeking truth in higher education.  He points to such factors as more young people standing up for fairness in women’s sports, Christians and conservatives pushing back on speech restrictions, and parents reclaiming their voice in higher education.

Unfortunately, the last several decades have seen our universities and colleges turn into bastions of liberal thought that have assaulted truth in all forms.  College students whose heads are filled with mush – hattip to Rush Limbaugh – are nowhere near prepared with the critical thinking skills needed to fight back against the Leftist onslaught of their professors.

The only way this will happen is to remove tenure.  Permanently.

Southeastern University, Grove City College in Western Pennsylvania and many other private institutions do not have tenured professors.  Instead, they rely on one-year contracts.  Every year, no matter the level of degree these educators have, they must demonstrate that they are fulfilling their contractual obligations by teaching to the highest standards.

The Professorial Class hates lack of tenure.  In fact, the American Association of University Professors defines tenure as “the right to continuous employment” which may not be terminated due to “insubordination, political affiliation, damaging the reputation of the institution, or the mere fact of negative performance reviews.”  Even the most egregious of offenses by a tenured professor takes a high level of proof for removal.

In other words, tenure is all about the professor – and has nothing whatsoever to do with the student.

We need to get rid of tenure.  We need to put professors on notice that they are employed to teach – not indoctrinate.  If Professors want to make it all about themselves – and their freedom of expression – they can go elsewhere.
