Married Women and Voter ID

Bride and Groom

This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Wednesday February 11, 2026.

Add married women to the Democrat list of people too stupid to get the proper ID needed to vote.  They join an august list that includes every minority in America.

According to a USA article reposted by the Star News:

President Donald Trump is urging lawmakers to pass a voter ID bill that has caught heat in the past for provisions that several voting rights groups warn could lead to voter disenfranchisement, including among married women.

The problem – according to Kathryn Palmer from USA today – is 80% of women married to a man take the last name of their spouse.  In order to get a proper ID under the Safeguard Amercan Voter Eligibility Act – SAVE – one has to prove American citizenship by providing a valid birth certificate or passport.  Since their married name is now different, married women now face the prospect of not being able to vote in federal elections due to the increased hurdles they have to jump through.

Of course, those hurdles usually just mean showing a certified marriage certificate that links their new name with their birth name.  Problem solved – and it turns out that women have been doing that for quite a long time in our country.

Democrats and their allies in the media simply do not want to pass laws that secure our elections at the most basic level – making sure that the person who is showing up to vote is indeed the person who he says he is – and that he is a citizen of our country.  Every state in the union that requires ID at the voting booth – including North Carolina - has made it as simple as possible to get the required identification.  North Carolina even allows a provisional ballot to be cast if no ID is present.

But according to Democrats, women are too hapless and helpless in their quest for a voter ID.  We shouldn’t expect them to have to show a marriage certificate.  We shouldn’t ask them to spend 30 extra seconds needed to connect their birth name to their present name.  It is too much to ask for married women – and so President Trump need to drop the whole ID thing entirely.

Or, Republicans can get their act together, pass the SAVE Act and take another step forward in securing our elections.

Pretty sure the married women among us will be able to keep up.
