This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Important note to all politicians – those in office and those running for office.  If the President of the United States – no matter if he is the same party as you are not - asks you to stand if you put Americans first in your policies – you stand.  It is Politics 101.

The Democrats at the State of the Union last night demonstrated they skipped that class.  President Trump asked point blank – the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens.  Stand if you agree.

Republicans stood and applauded – loudly.  The Democrats stayed seated, scowling, and continued their childish behavior that commenced from the moment President Trump started his speech.

But – for the first time in a long time – during that moment – we could take Democrats at face value.  They meant it – whole heartedly – the protection of the United States of America and her citizens are not their priority.  Illegal aliens invading our country come first.  Cutting body parts off children come first.  Rioting and destroying businesses come first.  Raising taxes comes first.  But – when it comes to securing the safety of Americans and providing for our posterity – Democrats sit on their hands.

It was a shameful moment during the State of the Union. 

And those same Democrats are here in New Hanover County.  They are either in office, or are running for office.  Tim Merrick, Judy Justice, Deb Butler, Salette Andrews, Kim Hardy, Roy Cooper – are all Democrats and part of the same mindset that pervades that party from top to bottom.  They are Ilhan Omar who shouted profanities from her seat during the speech and who has stood mute at the billions of fraudulent money sent to her state.     They are Elizabeth Warren who sat on her hands when the mother Iryna Zarutska was introduced to the nation.  They are Chuck Schumer who will not pass a DHS budget because ICE is doing its job and deporting criminal illegal aliens.  And they are Hakeem Jefferies, who believes that our voting process should be open to anyone who shows up at the polls – not just verified Americans with IDs.  This is the Democrat party.

Since they like sitting on their backsides so much – in November we need to keep in mind the despicable and unamerican behavior of these politicians – and send them home to their couches – where they can continue to watch America be the best country in the world.
