This is the Wilmington Standard Daily Update for Tuesday November 4, 2025.
Wilmington residents are going to the polls today to determine the makeup of city council. The office of mayor and three council seats are up for grabs. If Republicans show up in force, they can make a change. But will they?
In other news, the national government continues to be shut down because Democrats in the Senate refuse to pass a clean Continuing Resolution bill that will provide spending at levels previously passed by Congress. A US District Judge – appointed by Barak Obama of course – has waded into the fray by ordering the Trump administration to find ways to fund SNAP – the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program on which nearly 42 million people rely for monthly benefits. The Trump administration is scrambling for ways to comply – but if or when it does - benefits will be distributed at a reduced level.
Of course, the easiest way to make sure these benefits are paid – along with the salaries of our hard working men and women in uniform – is for the Democrats in the Senate to pass the bill. Even the main stream media is not buying the talking points. This shutdown is not the fault of the Republicans. The GOP has voted over 13 times to open the government. It is the Democrats who are using the poor, the hungry, the military, and those who need medical help to advance their power agenda. Despite the memes, the threatening tik tok videos, and constant playing of the race card by people on the Left, Republicans need to stay strong and keep offering to open the government with a bill that simply continues the spending level as previously agreed. It is no more complicated than that.
